Moving Data from 1 Harddrive to a new one.

I need some advice i am going to upgrade my current harddrive(Maxtor d-plus 9 8g IDE) to a new Maxtor 6Y120M0 120gb Serial ATA 8mb Cache 7200rpm.

1Q - Is there any way i can transfer everything from my old drive to the new drive. I want to use the new drive as my main bootable drive.

2Q - If i can whats the best way to go about it.

It's best to know your pc spec 1st, ie if you're 98+ then partioning 120gb into 3 works better, etc; can your mobo support big hd?

Once you're booting from new hd you'll have to reinstall all progs, but can transfer data with old hd hooked up as slave.

BTW it's best to post this type of query in Help room.

Just a note of caution -

Are you sure you want or need to go SATA - it'll mean fitting a new controller board to possibly an oldish system - and you may have issues with booting from it.

Not saying you shouldn't, just have you made sure it's the right route to take.
