Mouse cursor disappears

  drew645 23:37 05 Jan 2009

For the last fortnight or so my mouse cursor has occassionally disappeared from the screen. However I can still use the mouse buttons, right, left and centre.
If I reboot sometimes the cursor will appear but be frozen. Other times its OK.
I use an optical mouse, connected by USB. Changing the USB port usually solves the problem but then later it will happen again even using the new port. I have used different mice, but it still happens. So whatever the cause it's not down to the mouse itself or the USB port (unless I have a problem with all USB ports, is this possible?) I use XP (SP3).
Would appreciate any advice.

Have you checked the Pointer Options in Control Panel>Mouse ?

Or, it is possible that this is a symptom of Malware- I suggest you run SuperAntiSpyware as a precaution.

Thanks for advice, definitely no spyware, etc (I use Mcafee, Defender, Spywareblaster, Ad-aware & Spybot!)
Also pointer options are OK. Problem is occurring less but still not gone away. Got me beat figuring it out.

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers?

  drew645 07:55 08 Jan 2009 to be honest I'm not sure how.
It was just plug and play, no drivers supplied.
Presumably Windows found suitable drivers when I tried a different mouse.
