Mono Laser Printer Memory

  Gary Wood 22:00 01 Feb 2005

I'm considering buying a Samsung ML-1520 laser printer. However, it has 2Mb memory and I'm worried that this might not be enough. Can anyone tell me what the average amount is? I want to print pages of text/images and occasional "rough" proofs of design work.

2mb is not a lot - can you upgrade? I bought a Brother 1440 a while back which also had 2mb - but could be upgraded using old type SIMM modules (which I just happened to have on an old 486 mobo)- now it whizzes along on 18mb!

Thanks PA28.
As far as I know, the memory is not ugradable. However, all budget lasers seem to only have 2Mb or 4Mb...

Ask the dealer. the Brother was a cinch to upgrade - just a small panel at the back and drop the SIMM in. I have to say that with 2mb onboard I had problems with big documents - with 18mb I have none. I guess there's probably a way of caching the print data in the computer, but others are better qualified to comment on this.

I shouldn't worry too much, my Panasonic KX-P7100 has 2Mb memory and it has not caused a problem in the year and a half I've had it, even when sending 60 page pdfs to it to print in duplex. ditto pictures.

Just had a look at the 1520 on PC Worlds web site Gary Wood. It states 8 Mb of memory not 2?

It was highly recommended in PCA last month for its speed and the reviewer remarked on how quiet it was in use and that was at £90.00 now that PCW are doing it for £49.99 it looks to good a bargain to miss. Think I'll pop out and get one myself tomorrow.

Djohn is correct. The ML1520 does have 8Mb of RAM (which leaves me less worried!). I'd looked at some many printers tonight including the 1510, which does, I believe, have only 2Mb of memory.

Sorry again for any confusion and thanks for all your posts.

A bargain. Even with a half capacity toner cartridge.
