monitor clicks on and off

  taffyal 17:16 05 Feb 2008

I have 2 PCs running through a KVM switch. One works perfectly, the other (XP home, 768ram, 40gig HD), clicks the monitor on and off. I thought it may be the onboard graphics, so installed a Rage 128 pro, but it still happens.I tried taking out the KVM, & connecting direct, but still, "click" blank screen, 2 seconds later, "click" back to normal.Only using it for surfing, email etc, no games or anything.Any suggestions please?

Check the physical connection in the back of the monitor, might have become slightly dislodged. Or, try another Power cable to monitor.

Or try that monitor on its own, ie - not through the KVM switch.

Ignore my last comment - silly me, just re-read your Post.

Thanks Technotiger. Just checked the connection, seems OK, & swapped the power lead-but if it was that, wouldn't it affect the other PC?- hasnt clicked for a while, but it can sometimes be OK for an hour or more. I did think it maybe overheating, but it can happen as soon as I turn on. Strange.Cheers, Al.

Another thing you could check is the Power Saving Settings in Control Panel>Power Options.

Just checked, & it said turn off monitor after 20 minutes.I just set it to "never".I can see it would turnitself off, but to come back on immediately?? Hopefully this will have fixed it, I'll give it an hour ar so. Thanks. Al.

Hope that works - mine is set to Never!
