Monitor calibration software

I was wondering if anyone knew of any free Monitor calibration software. I had not known about this thing until recently and that calibrating was especially important for those that do work with images/graphics/art etc. Calibrating makes sure that the colour of the prints are as close as the one you look at on your screen.

I did a google search just now and see that calibration software can cost a few hundred to thousands.
