Mobile Internet - Asus EEE

  shellship 14:09 30 Apr 2008

The idea of being able to access the internet from one's laptop when not in a wi-fi area is great. However, I understand that software has to be loaded into the lappie so that the USB dongle can work. The capacity of the Asus EEE is v small and the software is many Mb. Does this mean that one cannot use mobile internet with the EEE?

It will depend on the provider you sign up with I suppose. I have an EEE PC 4GB with Windows XP installed at a little over 300mb; with Firefox, AbiWord, updates, etc it comes in a little under 700mb. That leaves about 3.5gb free and no dongle software is going to take up that much space!

Thanks you are a star - as usual. Many thanks. Got my Mbs mixed up with my Gbs.

Sorry - forgot to ask. Will any of the mobile softwares work with the Asus form of Linux or will we have to instal the slimmed down version of XP?

I don't know, I'm afraid; I used the Linux for a while but switched over to XP because of needing to sync with Office Mobile / phone etc.
