Mixing XHTML and HTML code on Website

Yes, I know, it is most probably a very stupid query.

I have limited coding experience, but a friend has asked me to maintain his site, written in HTML4. Viewing the site gives me nightmares when considering updates. I have a much better understanding of XHTML.

Can I update each page to XHTML, whilst adapting the others?

documents, but you can convert your HTML to XHTML. There's a browser/editor called Amaya that does the trick ,and you can find out more about it if you click here
