Mixing Hard Drive Types

I'm new to SATA.

I have an Asus K8V SE Deluxe motherboard and I currently have two IDE drives installed. I would like to replace one of them with a drive that happens to only be available in SATA format(WD Raptor). Can I keep one IDE drive installed on the IDE cable, and simply install the SATA drive with an SATA cable? (I'm not looking to use RAID)

Thanks.

Unless your motherboard manual says otherwise.

if your case is big enough to hold 3 hard drives, why remove one from the IDE cable.

also read ya manual on how to install the SATA drivers as a few people have problems installing them correctly.
