Windows 98SEUnder Device manager themitsumi cd-rom controller with double speed driveshows with a yellow exclamation mark. The CD Drive doesn't seem to want to work. I can't see to find a "Driver" (?) for this controller to see if the drive is dead or just needs a new driver. Can any one help?(I thought CDROMs didn't have drivers!?)
Yes they do but they are normally quite happy with the windows generic oneshere is a link for some mitsumi drivers..click here
Windows default drivers are usually OK. Have you tried removing in Device Manager and rebooting?
Deleted entry (i wasn't sure what this "driver" did so thats why i asked first!! CDROM immediately burst into life but makes sounds like it having problems reading CD.. Even after reboot...Clunk, clunk, spin, clunk, spin, etc etcI'll try a spare CD ROM drive.Cheers
Have you tried a CD cleaning disk?
VoG is will try one but unless that solves it i'll write it off as dead (it an old 8x drive)Cheers all
