WinXPPro, Upgraded from WinXP Home

I turned off my PC yesterday, everything was fine.
I had been getting a message ..something like "Windows cannot find the (NULL) etc. which I resolved by uninstalling/reinstalling IE from v6 to v7.

Today I have switched on, and got a black screen saying "windows could not start because the following file is missing, or corrupt.
"\window\system32\config\system" you can atttempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original Setup CD-ROM"
Select "r" at the first screen to start repair.

I have done this, selected "r"

A black screen appears with the message "The recovery consul provides system repair and consol functionality, etc.

and then:-

1: C:\Windows

Which window installation would you like to log onto?
(To cancel, press enter)?

What should I type in after this?

Can anyone help me on this please?

Thank you

What can I say...you appeared at the top of the list, and that's an oft-used link round here - no searching needed...

I have done as advised (the problem is on our other PC).

I now have a blue screen:-

Windows Professional Setup

Setup cannot locate the windows installation you want to upgrade...

I have used the XP Pro upgrade disk, do you think
that I shoud use the original XP Home disk/
