missing operating system

when i start up my laptop it comes up with
not bootable cd in atapi cd-rom
missing operating system.

Whats going on?

You have a non-bootable CD in the drive. Remove the disk and try again.

Will it start in safe mode? keep tapping F8 as computer starts then choose from list Safe Mode. If it does you could then try a Restore to before the problem if it works

i think id better add that when i put the recovery disk in i went into fdisk and i think it created a partition. will this have anything to do with this
