Missing gigs

  tennear 22:12 18 Dec 2008

I reinstalled Xp onto my 500G Seagate Barracude HDD but after formatting the available size was only 130G. Any ideas where the rest has gone? I've run Chkdsk and reformatted again, everything says the disk is working ok but minus the rest. Any ideas?

I reinstalled Xp

You need to reinstal the service packs

XP can only see 127G until SP1 2 or 3 is installed

Did you format FAT32 or NTFS .... it should be NTFS.

ntfs, think fruitbat might have it there...

... now if only I can get the network adaptor to work I'm in business.

Thanks y'all.

Also check for limit jumper on Drive

If you look in Disc Manager you will most likely find your missing gigs, as unallocated disc space

Thanks people, couldn't find anything in Device Manager but a bit of freeware called Easeus allowed me to see the whole drive and resize the partition. Not a bad tool actually now I've got all my gigs back. The really interesting thing is without all the rot that was bundled the PC feels really efficient. Thanks again.
