Miscrosoft Evaluation Pack - Upgrading

  spuds 18:33 22 Nov 2003

A friends son is using a Microsoft 40 day XP o/s Evalution package with SP1, that is about due to cease anytime now. It is his intention to upgrade this to a fully purchased replacement.Would it be best to un-install the evaluation pack, and do a clean re-install with the new product. Or can it be adviced to just install over the existing pack.

His son is still at school, and if possible, he would like to consider a Microsoft XP Educational pack as the new replacement.Where can he obtain one of these from, with a students discount.

Can the evaluation XP pack be upgraded to a fully paid version. If this is possible, then it will save extra work. If so, how is this achieved, Microsoft have not supplied this information.

bvw-- Thanks for the link. Going further into this, it would appears as though a clean install would be best.Leaving the evaluation as a linking device, will possible cause future problems. The choice for my friend, is whether to go for XP Home or XP Pro, depending on the possibility of going via the EDU way.Trying to keep cost to the minimum.

Best to un-install then re-install' or just go 'over the top'?. He doesn't want to lose any previous work.
