I think it will be OK, as long as the previous owner has removed it from his PC. Install the copy you have and then click on the activate button while on the net. It should say "Activated OK" if not give Microsoft a phone call, they will probably help out. j.

Yep! just checked my dial-up connections in IE it had attempted to place a dial-up via 56k modem, but I'm on broadband. :o(

I've gotz me popcorn out and watching this one.

Anyway, the problem as i see it is satisfying MS that the original XP installation has been removed. Do you know the buyer?

...also was it actually activated in the first place?

The only way to know is to phone MS up ans see what happens...

if a person sells on a disc then should he not be able to give all codes, numbers, keys etc with disc,it is still only used by one person, the same as if the whole pc was sold?

  powerless 22:58 25 Sep 2003

Product key yes.

But the WPA will kick in and stop XP.

If they registered over 4 months ago, your program CD effectively becomes 'new' again.

Just do it and don't worry, its actually a collosal yawn (provided 4 months HAS elapsed).
