Microsoft Word problem

  simonrees69 21:09 04 Jun 2003

I have noticed recently that any document that have previously saved as a word document has now appeared to be saved as a word pad document. I can open the file to it's original state if I open MS Word first without any problem. But, if I open the file from "My Documents" it opens automatically in word pad......Why is this?

I am running Windows ME2000 with Office 2000 professional edition.

Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks in anticipation.

It is unusual, but it sounds like word pad has overwritten Word as the default document processor.

If you open a document in Word and then save it, do you get the Word icon beside it in your 'My Documents' folder?

In XP you can get an Option to open anything like Word in whatever you wish as a Default. Don't know whether you can do it in yours but have a look in Tools and Options and various settings where all those boxes can be ticked and unticked. I expect something has changed there.

single click on any word .doc

now hold the shift key down, right click then file and select "open with"

now a box will open up,look down the list and highlight Word and check the box that says "allways use this programme to open this file type"
