Messaging across a (small)network

I have two PC's networked using a crossover cat 5 cable and all is working fine and dandy, What I would like to do is set up a simple messaging service between them (I don't want to communicate with anyone else via the internet) Is there such a product? the two PC's run Xp home on one and windows ME on the other.

Google for net send.

It's a DOS command (and so will already be on both computers) but I think you need to have messenger enabled for it to work???

Try MessagePopup II LAN message communication program.

It's FREEWARE and it works on all Windows operating systems. As well as instant messaging it can also handle sending files to networked computers.

I am still using the old MessagePopup program for communication between our networked ME and XP computers but you can download the more recent version at :
