Memory - What's Best???

  Press Man 11:47 17 Dec 2008

Hi Guys,

What would be better, 2GB matched memory or 3GB (3x1GB). Will Vista Home Premium recognise and utilise 4GB of memory in any configuration? Thanks in advance.

Any configuration should work.

You need a 64bit system to recognise more than 3.5G memory.

So, not worth putting in 4GB! Therefore will 2GB matched memory be better than 3GB (3x1GB) memory?

Not sure really, my installation of Vista showed something like 3.2Gb until SP1 went on. Since then it shows 4Gb, which is what I have (32bit version Home premium).

if you have dual channel or ganged memory (quad core) stick 4 gig in, i use 2 x 2 gb sticks on my 32 bit vista set up it shows 3356 ram in task manager and seems the happiest set up i have tried on that pc.
as ventanas says with sp1 it shows all 4 gig in control panel, system, it still can't use anymore, because it's 32 bit.

2x 2Gb is ideal, as adman says. RAM is inexpensive these days - the difference in price between 3Gb & 4Gb is probably ~£10. Plus, this gives you easier room for expansion greater than 4Gb in the future should you ever need it (mobo needs 4x RAM slots). G

Ok I'll go with 2x2GB. Thanks guys.
