Memory Upgrade - Help Required

  gusfoe 23:45 07 Feb 2007

Hi, I am looking to upgrade the memory on my Asus P4S8X-X motherboard. I currently have 2 of the 3 banks full, each with 256mb of DDR PC2700. I am looking to put approx 512mb in the remaining slot.
For compatibility does it matter whether I buy a PC2700, PC3200 or PC4000 module? I have checked on the Crucial website and they recommend all 3 although the Asus handbook advises that it supports PC2700/2100/1600 DDR and then advises that “According to SIS specifications, PC2700 maximum to 2 DIMMs support only”.
Any advice on which module I can buy is welcome.
Many Thanks

Does the manual mention whether 2 of the slots are sharing? If so then it may not be possible to fit another module. Although mine's an Abit board I had this problem a few years ago.

As mentioned above Crucial may be able to advise.
