memory testing on startup

In the last 10 minutes the following has happened, system re-started on its own, system locked out, memory testing stopped before the end of test. The first have happened before but not the memory problem.
Test should have finished 524288k OK.
However it got to 490304k OK43.
Does anyone know if the above line has a meaning i.e. OK43

I suspect it means the RAM is faulty - but that there's no specific meaning to the 43.

If the RAM is two modules, try taking out the second one, and see if the system runs OK for a day or two.

You could also try downloading MEMTEST86 and running it.
