I am trying to install an 1GB memory card to my Dell 2400 desktop which it is having trouble taking.
When installed into memory bank is fine when restart pc all I get is the windows logo screen and the line at the bottom starts moving at the bottom in white then it stops.
What is the best thing to do?
any help would be appreciated!!

what motherboard is it?

I am not certain if it is still the case but DELL systems used to use RAMBUS memory.

If this is the case then the memory must be installed in matched pairs.

Do you have a spec of the memory you installed?

There are two specs for the 2400, one with 400mhz FSB and one with 533mhz FSB, if you have the 400 you should use PC-2100 memory module.

According to Dell 512 is the largest module you can use with your motherboard and you need PC2100, so buy a module compatible to your system and you should be fine.

I think the 1gb stick is a little too large, perhaps you can take it back and ask for an exchange.

you could use pc2700 if you want but it's a little dearer.

two sticks of pc2700 512mb ram would get you to your 1gb memory.

i have just found that a 1gb stick can be used in the dell 2400 you have provided that it is non parity
