Media Player wo'nt play films

  Ozy 22:24 05 Sep 2005

I Installed XP pro on a new built computer, everything seemed to be working fine,
An audio CD plays normally in media player then I inserted a DVD film into my DVD drive, a box said
“ do I want to play DVD film with Media Player”
I clicked OK, and media player started, but only in sound, the screen was a mass of lines and jumbled up colour.
If I let Power DVD play the film, it plays the film normally.
I installed Media Player 9 but it made no difference
How can I get media player to play films?

WMP will not play DVD's,Mpeg2 by default. You need to install the correct codecs to do this. Even then it's not too good. I would strongly recommend you use Media player classic to view/listen to media files. When fully set up it will play anything. You can get it from click here(bookmark the link as it gets updated)
Download the Megacodec pack and install it. When you do you need to scroll down to mpeg2 and select Elecard for encoding and Ligos for demuxing. Leave all the other settings as they are. It also includes a version of Quicktime which will not take over your computer. It will also play Real files. Any probs post back.
