Media Player 11 Vista stopped working

  Bob The Blob 13:58 04 Sep 2008

Just recently when I've tried to run Media Player 11 on Vista I get the error message "Windows Media player has stopped working".

My system is fully patched and up to date.
I did read somewhere that upgrading your processor can screw up Media Player. This is one thing that I have done.

Any ideas how I can fix this?

You can't with Vista. It's built into the operating system.

Register DLL files
To resolve this issue, please re-register jscript.dll, vbscript.dll and wmp.dll using the following steps.

1. Close Windows Media Center and any other windows.
2. Click the Start Button, All Programs, and Accessories
3. Right click "Command Prompt" and choose "Run as administrator".
Note: Please click Continue if the User Account Control (UAC) window prompts.
4. Type the following commands and press Enter after each line.

regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
regsvr32 wmp.dll

It may work for you.

Windows Media Player is a built-in component in Windows Vista. We cannot reinstall it by design. However, we can re-register its files via steps above
