ME Shutdown

  [DELETED] 11:49 23 Oct 2003

On shutdown I get to the 'It is now safe......' dialog and before I have a chance - unless I'm very quick,it's started up again.I seem to remember applying a patch a while ago (nofsthst) but it didn't do anything.Any ideas Thanks Chris

ALSO try...... click here

Tried all of the steps in both articles - but the problem remains!
The machine doesn't 'hang' at all, it just restarts immediately after the 'It is now safe......' message appears.
The only other clue I have is that the Windows defragger wont work - it keeps restarting after 1%.I have closed ALL programs down and can find nothing else running in the background. This is perhaps a related problem ?

I've known two people who have had this.

We disabled Norton AV on one and that cured it.

On the other we simply could not find a cure other than reinstall the OS over the top. That did it.

It does look also as if you have something running in the background and msconfig does not always show all programs running btw. You could try Startup Manager from click here also EndItAll may be useful for you click here.
Hope this may help,

Have you tried System Restore, to a point before this problem started?
