Mcrosoft Word Alternatives.

Can someone direct me to a download of a working alternative to Microsoft Word.

I have received a cd rom which contains text, but for some reason Word seems reluctant in opening the cd correctly.

Open Office or Ability as been suggested?.

You have not mentioned which operating system you have
Vista by any chance

Open Office is the obvious choice.

But you could aslo try Microsoft's Word Viewer at

If you type "word reader" into googlw you'll get a download from Microsoft that should solve the problem

However, is there a problem with the cd?

Try Google instead

Even my computer don't have googlw

Perhaps the files are in docx format?

Or try the Go version of Open Office here, which has some improvements over the standard version

Abiword is pretty compatible and free(and a lot smaller than OpenOffice!).

Thanks everyone for the much appreciated inputs.

The disk contained information about Horsemanship and events, but what the author omitted to say the disk required Microsoft Word, which for some reason wouldn't open the disk contents.

Downloaded Open Office, and after a little wait and head scratching, all was revealed :O).

Thanks again everyone. Will now tick as resolved.
