Lotus 123 problem.

  KeithMH 16:51 18 Jun 2005

For the past couple of weeks I've been unable to open Lotus 123 files. I get "an error has occurred....." followed by "This program has performed an illegal operation.....". I'm running Windows 98. Can anyone help?

I've stopped using 123 but whenever I received that message I uninstalled it then reinstalled it.

I've tried reinstalling, but without uninstalling. There doesn't appear to be any simple way to do this. For example, it doesn't appear in the Add/Remove Programs list!

It's listed as Lotus Smartsuite in my Add/Remove programs list, even though I don't have the whole Smartsuite installed.

All that's listed in mine is Lotus Word Pro 96, even though I also have 123 and Organiser installed. How strange.

Hi KeithMH, I use Lotus and suggest you look in Windows Explorer under C:\Lotus and see how many separate folders you have listed there.
I have 12 folders listed which include 123, Approach, Organize and Word Pro.
If you haven't those folders listed then I imagine that you only have a selected installation.
You could also go into Windows Explorer and find an existing *.123 file (in the WORK Folder), right click it, select OPEN and see if that will open the file. If it doesn't then it looks as if it definitely isn't installed properly.
In the Add/Remove Programs My LOTUS is also listed as Lotus Smartsuite.
Hope this helps.

Many thanks for your suggestions.

Oddly, I can now open all my 123 files except one (the second most important one, of course). If I attempt to open it, I get the messages as before and I can not open any other 123 file until I restart the system.
