Lost drive in my computer

I had a major crash and needed to reinstall XP pro in my computer I now have showing
Floppy A
DVD-RW D was showing as E but I changed to D
Removable disk E was showing as F
Removable Disk F was showing as G
If I plug my USB drive in it becomes G

I think either E or F is my canon printer as it has a card reader on it.

Anyhow my physical drives are a DVD rw and a Hitachi DVD rom the DVDRW is D but there is no sign of the hitachi, though it is showing in device manager.

There is no icon for it in My Computer and if I put disk in it does nothing.

Hope that makes sense the reason I put the disk changes in was in case i had some baring on what has hppened to the hitachi

No CD/DVD or CD-ROM access is missing error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19, Code 39, or Code 41
Try this if the optical drives are not appearing in My Computer or Device Manager. This is sometimes caused by the removal of Roxio software. Run regedit and navigate to registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. Highlight it and in the right pane, find the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values. Highlight each one in turn, right click and delete them. Close regedit and restart the computer. If in doubt make a restore point before making changes. click here
