Loss of internet connection

I have a home wireless network based on the Netgear DG834GT ADSL router. The connection works perfectly when used with my laptop, fails immediately if I switch the LCD monitor of my desk top computer on even if it is only on standby and the desktop itself turned off. Does anyone have a suggsetion as to why this might happen? Many thanks

Which is the master, the desktop or the laptop? If the desktop then it could be that the hdd is going into sleep mode. Or do you have the connection software on both computers?

The master is the desktop and the connection software only on the desktop.

Is the router near the desktop/monitor? Have you tried relocating the router?

Yes the effect is still apparent even with router 10 feet away, but goes if the distance is increased. Why should that be?

Have never heard of this before but it sounds like the monitor is causing interference with the wireless signal. You could try changing the wireless channel and see if things improve.

Thank you. I have now changed the monitor to mold CRT one and everything now works perfectly!!
I am now wondering if I should buy a new LCD monitor.

May be worth considering.
