Loosing CD rom drive installing Nero 7

  rawprawn 10:43 20 Nov 2006

I am trying to load nero 7 Essentials, when I put the CD in all is OK and it says it must uninstall my old Nero first. It starts uninstalling then says it must reboot the computer to complete uninsatllation, I wait quite a while and nothing happens so I manually reboot. When it restarts My E: (CD ROM Drive) is missing and I have to use System Restore to get it back. Any ideas please.

No CD/DVD or CD-ROM access is missing error Code 19, Code 31, Code 32, Code 39, or Code 41
Try this click here if the optical drives are not appearing in My Computer or Device Manager.
(This is sometimes caused by the removal of Roxio or other writing software.)
Run regedit and navigate to registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
Highlight it and in the right pane, find the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values.
Highlight each one in turn, right click and delete them.
Close regedit and restart the computer.
If in doubt make a restore point before making changes.

Thanks for that, do I change the registry keys before or after the drive goes missing?

Brilliant! thank you, problem solved. Doug Knox's fix didn't work, but the manual registry fix did.
Nero now installed and working.
