Know little about computers. Looking to buy a reliable laptop for nephew heading to university. To be used for college work, films. Max budget 500 pounds. Saw the following and wondering was it a reasonable spec - HP 14" Intel® Core™ i5 Laptop Windows 10 Intel® Core™ i5-8250U Processor RAM: 8 GB / Storage: 128 GB SSD Battery life: Up to 12.5 hours £ 499 Any opinions or suggestions gratefully received

Take a look at this. In all honesty, your nephew may find that a budget machine is going to struggle to keep up with the use that he will give it. A lot depends on what he's going to do at university. A budget laptop will be OK for day-to-day course work, but when it comes to streaming films, games, or image manipulation for instance, it will falter somewhat.

On a tight budget it can sometimes make sense to buy a used machine with a bit more under the bonnet.

The SSD at 128 gig is tight; if you could afford one with at least 250 or even 500 gig it would be better. In either event a back up USB HD at about £50 is needed
