Locked by disk utility.

I sometimes run Norton SPeed Disk so optimize my PC Drives. But lately I can't because when I am running Norton Speed Disk a message comes up saying something like 'Drive D is locked by a disk utility. Cannot perform Speed Disk on Drive D. Quit any applications that may have locked the drive and restart Speed Disk' How can i be sure that it is a disk utility that is locking my drive and what utility it is?

Could be any one of a number of things - try running speed disk in safe mode - this seems to solve a wide range of problems.

Did you try "safe mode" and did you found the same "lock" active ?
What about disabling startup of all applications with Windows/PC startup (Msconfig under "Start" in Win 98SE,....) on a new boot, and then re-enabling one by one the applications and rebooting each time ?
