Local sniffing while I'm surfing

If I am at home on my laptop can someone with the right knowledge and software on another laptop see what my surfing habits are? We both go via the same broadband router. Or could someone connect a device (locally or remote) to do this automatically?

Which "someone" and who are "we both"?

If you mean "someone" who is an unwanted connection from outside the household, then if the wireless network is fully secured with WPA/WPA2, MAC address filtering is enabled and your SSID is hidden, they won't be connecting to your network.

As regards "we both", you are sharing the same router and therefore the Laptops are networked. Shared folders and printers will be accessible over the network, subject to firewall configuration.

This is a home network and is wired. No wireless. Good point about sharing folders thanks, I'll check that. More concerned about internet surfing for bank security issues, etc.
