Livebox-PC loses internet connection

  Petesilver 20:00 27 Feb 2010

I know my Livebox works (wirelessly) OK and always connects to the INTERNET and my laptop always gets a connection However my Desktop keeps losing its INTERNET connection and I can sometimes get it back by rebooting (several times --last times was Seven)so I was wondering if anyone can explain what the problem might be I have tried Orange who promised to ring back but to date they haven't,
When I display the inventel wireless manager it says it connected to WANNADO-6111 OK and it has detected the adaptor but it just cannot find the IP Address and after a while it just gives up.
PS I have posted this on orangeproblems website but I have had such good help from here I thought someone might know the problem.

is it OK with a cable?

In device manager - click on network adaptor (wireless card) click properties advanced - power saving mode - CAM Constantly Awake Mode

Hello Fruit Bat thanks for your reply
I have never tried it with a cable Don't think I know how or i even have one.
As far as the device manager i looked as you said
but the power saving mode is "disabled" but it does give the option of "Dynamic" or "Maximum" so I have let it alone for now.........

It came with a LAN cable red plugs at each end
put one end in the red socket of the livebox and the other in the network plug in your machine.
It will probably work without you having to do anything else.

Hello Fruit Bat
I have checked every where in the box they sent and where ever but I don't seem to have one so will go out and buy one and see what happens.
It has gone wrong again it keeps searching for the ip address so I am doing this on my laptop which works ok, while i have been typing this I rebooted my desk top and hell its connected this time its so frustrating, sorry I am going on my apologies
