Limit internet speed over wireless network

  prycey 20:57 15 Oct 2006

My dad just bought my sister a new laptop and I CANNOT allow her to download lots of crap to clog up the connection.

I have a "Belkin ADSL modem with High-Speed Mode Wireless-G Router" (can't find the model name).

it says it's only a trial version though; is there any other programs that do the same thing, or where can i "buy" the license code?

I think Belkin models have a facility where you can limit the amount of time a connection can be allowed , should be with the MAC address , you can cut it off from the router at a preselected time , have a look !! .

i don't want to stop her from using the internet, just limit the speed at which she downloads

fast downloads don't usually clog up the connection.

It is usually shared equally by the computers on the net.

Therefore if one computer is working they will both halve the speed when the other connects.

but i only have 512kbps- it's slow enough at downloading things as it is!

do a speed test before and after her connection.think you will not see much difference. most times here there is one desktop and two laptops sharing and do not detect a noticeable difference and one is on bitt torrent. have had up to 5 devices sharing at same time.

but if i want to download at 50kpbs, and she's downloading also, then my downloads will only go around 25kbps, right?

appreciate the help though :)

dont quite know what this is about, I have 3 PC's connected all being used at the same time, and as good as, they all run and download at the same speed, no one has ever said that any of them were slow....
