LG DVD problem

  gcook 16:19 05 Nov 2005

I have just bought Civilization IV yesterday and stuck it in my LG GDR-8161B DVD ROM player. For some reason the player does not see the DVD. I went back to the shop and got a new Civ IV DVD today and it still isn't working.

A quick search on the internet revealed that some games have problems working on this drive without an updated driver due to the encrytion used.

I went to the LG site but cannnot find a new driver. Does anyone here have it or know where I could find it please?

Thanks for your help

It won't be called a driver but Firmware instead.

Also doesn't like FarCry, Painkiller and few others apparently.....

Yes sorry thats right. I have checked various sites, but cannot find it anywhere on the net. There are some sites that need registration along with signing up for spam but that downloads an incorrect file called powerdvd.exe

Dont worry, I never took it.

Excellent. Thanks very much PaulB.

Much appreciated! I hope that solves the problem with Civ IV now.

Well I downloaded the firmware update and followed the readme instructions. Put all files on to a bootable disc in the same directory (temp) etc.

At the A:\ prompt the readme file says to type in "JD2 (All files are in same directory)" and press return. I have tried this along with just the "JD2"

JD2 is a batch file that commands DOS to flashup.

A flashup program starts and then I get the error message download file GDR-8161B0102.dld cannot be found. I have checked that this is the exact same filename as is on the floppy and in the same directory. Any ideas on what is going on?

going to the temp folder first

at the A: type

cd temp

you should then see

then type JD2 and hit enter
