Leaving BT

Does BT charge for leaving them for another provider. Have heard that someone was charged £50 when they changed to Talk Talk Phone and Broadband

It depends what contract you signed up to. If you signed for a year, and then you leave before the year is up, you could face charges.

You could also have to pay for, or return, any free equipment that came with the contract.

You need to read your contract.

I don't have a contract.

Everyone has a contract

It is usually 12 months, so have a look when you started using BT. Or ring up and ask for a Mac number, I'm pretty certain that they will tell you if you look as though you are leaving.

Also be aware your BT line rental alone could have a 12-month contract.

It's fine if you're only going to get calls & broadband from Talk Talk - i.e. retaining BT's line rental in the process.

But if you're moving line rental (incl calls) AND broadband, it's worth checking with BT if any 'exit fees' are payable before you sign-up with Talk Talk. G
