Laptops and Printers

One of my flock asked for a sdolution to this one.
I gave a 'guess answer- but as it the correct one.
Her problem is this
When ever she connects the printer to the laptop
She gets the 'Found new hardware prompt' even though the software is in place- and,so she says cannot get past that unless she does the install.
She now has several installations of the same printer.
I suggested she removed all. Re-booted, did a re install. and then in future only unplug the printer when the machine has shut down, and plug in before firing up the computer.

Am I missing something?

That's the problem, when the usb connection is pulled, then reconnected, the computer thinks it is new installation and product. Or at least that is what I have found in similar circumstances.

Perhaps the are other interesting views and suggestions about this, that might be worth knowing!.

Is she using more than one printer, possible at another location.

In which case is the Printer in question "Set as Default Printer"
