Laptop won't power on, no light

My friend's cat chewed on her laptop cord and may have shorted it out - the laptop kept working for the rest of the day but then the next day the battery was draining even when it was plugged in. Now the laptop won't turn on even when plugged in (without the battery or with it).

We tried a new cord and it doesn't do anything either- does that make it seem like the motherboard?

Thank you.

which cord? power cable to the adaptor "brick" or the lead between the "brick" and the laptop.?

make and model of laptop?

Almost certainly the low voltage lead between 'brick' and laptop (if it had been the mains side, I would expect the cat to be an excat). New chargers are cheap off ebay.
