Laptop won't load operating system

Hi can any one please help. My girlfriends laptop won't start up. Whenever I switch it on all I get is the menu to start windows normally or in safe mode( think this is called a bios screen?)

I have selected every option on this screen but the laptop just restarts itself after a second after selecting an option.

I fear the recovery disc is needed.... Heeeelp?

If you have a recovery disk, try the repair option. As you gave no info on your setup, it's difficult to advise further.

Apologies. It's an emachines laptop but thts about as much as I know. It's running on xp home.

If you let me know what info would help I will see what I can do.

Did she keep the manual? I'm not that familiar with the emachine's recovery process, but basically you boot from the recovery CD and a few options will pop up, one of which is a non-destructive repair, choose that. Or it's possible that the option is accessed by pressing one of the F keys on boot up, before Windows tries to load.

Thanks. Trying the non destructive option. Will back all important files the do the full recovery.
