Laptop touchpad not working

The new battery I got for my Dell CPi AX400T laptop came with a CD containing a BIOS update. Seemed like a reasonable idea to install this, as it has never been updated in its 2-3 year life. Bad idea! Now it doesn't seem to recognise that it has a touchpad. The only pointing device listed in the setup menu is "mouse". I can't even log in (W2K) without the touchpad as I don't have mouse for it. How can I get the touchpad back? Will a reinstall of the OS do it?

Navigate the CMOS settings and there should be a setting within that which will enable the touchpad. Sounds as though the BIOS update has loaded system defaults, which may have meant the touchpad was disabled

Scuse my ignorance, but where do I find the CMOS settings?

Went back into setup, looked at the "pointing device" settings yet again, rebooted for the umpteenth time and now it works okay!

Thanks for the help.
