Laptop for student

Both myself and a friend are looking for laptops for use at uni and at home. I have found that out uni have got a deal on the new toshiba A10 series. The one i am considering has the following spec,
P4 2.0ghz, 256mb ddr (add 256 for £76inc vat) 30gb hdd, cd rw/dvdrom combo, external floppy, 15inch screen and win xp pro.
This comes for 994.05 or 1070.43 with the extra ram. Is this a good price for this spec machine?
Any sugestions of other places to look at other than this sites chart?

My post should read Toshiba A10-203 (not A1) and the price is inclusive of VAT.

Thanks, Went into pcworld today and they didnt have any A10's. And i'm put off by the fact i was stood by the laptops for about half an hour and i wasnt even acknowledged by a member of staff.
I've been directed towards multivision.
What is preferable in a laptop.
Proessor, p4 or Athlon M,
Graphics, Geforce4 440go, or Radion 9000 mobility?
