Laptop sound problems

Problem with sisters laptop:

No sound is coming out, I have tried a DVD and sample music. On the speaker config page I tested a bleep to check if they were making any noise at all and that worked.
I checked the sound settings, it is on max, not muted.

She has an XP machine (SP1), and has never had problems with the speakers before.

Any ideas guys?

Cheers :)

Hi Si_L,

On some laptops there is a key (mine has blue writing on it Fn) that when pressed with other key/s can either mute sound or turn it up and down. Check your sister has not accidentally muted her sound (on my pc F8 and Fn key pressed together mutes my sound).

Also have a look in control panel/sounds to see if anything has been greyed out.

Thanks guys, I tried the things you said, and they didn't work, for the simple reason that the sound on AVS player was turned down to zero! The volume bar was so thin i hardly noticed it.

Thanks for your help guys.
