Laptop Processors

I am after a laptop, however I'm bewildered at the range of processors available and don't know which one to go for. I want to use the laptop to replace my bulky desktop PC, largish screen DVD writer etc. I htought that a Pentium 4 3.06 chip would do, what is hyper-threading? are the new Pentium_M chips as good? I don't want to travel anywhere with my machine . Can anyone point me to a review of the various types of processor so that I can make up my mind?

Hyper threading is the new form of dual processors. Its a bit like having two processors in one. They are very powerful.
