Remve the Hard Drive in bottom most likely under a Plate then see if you can get anything on screen

Remove battery and the power supply. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to a minute. Now try with the power supply only - no battery.

Could the screen have failed? Try an external monitor perhaps. When the computer attempts to power up is there any hard drive activity that continues even though you can`t see anything?

  poppet69 14:32 10 Jan 2009

screen worked last night when it did work once
have another laptop but dont know how to link up, no hard drive activity , fan goes for 5 seconds then stops

You would need an external monitor not the laptop but the lack of HDD activity more or less suggests it`s not a screen problem. The computer isn`t even getting to the POST which is bad news. This suggests to me that it is a motherboard problem. What make and model; is the laptop and how old is it?
