Laptop locked on startup

My mates laptop seems to be locked somehow when you start it up or wake it up.
You have to press Fn and F1 and it goes back to the login screen.
Then you go again and you can use it no probs.
Any suggestions?

cheers for any answers.

Fn and F1.On some laptops i think you have to press those to get the Wireless Connection to work.Maybe I am thinking of Fn and F2 it has been a while since I used it.

Could be something to do with the smart keys
Anyone got any real ideas?

Make and model of machine might help also operating system being used.

Press and hold the power key until the laptop powers off remove the charger cable and the battery for a few minutes then replace both and try booting up again

Once you are at the desktop check the screensaver power management settings are not set to force loggon on resume or words to that effect

Cheers HC

Thank you
But now the laptop has crapped itself all together so they are taking it back to the shop.
Cheers and happy holidays.
