Laptop just "died"

Laptop is HP Compaq 6715s and it just died whilst watching a DVD. When hitting the "on" button the hard disc light flashes, and that's all. Any ideas on the best place to start trying to find out what went wrong?

Should have stated the power light flashes, not the hard disc light.

Do you hear any noises such as drives or fans? If not, the power supply sounds suspect.

First try just on main, then on battery only. Finally try booting without the Hard Drive in, my hp hard drive is at the bottom under a plate held by two screws

Have tried all the suggestions and still nothing. So looks like onboard power unitfailure. Can I get a connector for the hard drive so that I can connect it to a USB port on my desktop PC, or another laptop, and download docs etc from hard drive? If yes, what do I need and can you suggest a supplier

Think this click here should do the job, but check the spec for yourself.

I have used this enclosure and it worked very well, check whether your hard drive is pata or sata, one of their units will do both, but is dearer of course.

Thanks. Will try the cheaper Nova Tech enclosure
