Laptop installs same MS updates again and again

My elder daughter has just returned from Uni so I'm spring cleaning her laptop (Dell Inspiron 510m running XP SP2).

Each time I go to turn it off I'm offered the same 8 MS updates to install.

At the shut down screen, against the 'Turn Off ' option, it says 'Turn off here to install important updates'.

I can't see which updates they are, but if I choose 'Turn Off' it installs 8 updates again.

Next time I boot up the laptop and then go to shut it down, I'm offered another 8 updates to install.

There are no obviously 'new' updates showing in Add/Remove Programs.

Any ideas how to get out of this loop?

So what did you do:

Choose 'Turn Off' to install the updates each time?

Click on the option to ignore the updates?
