laptop hard drive replacement

having fitted a new seagate hard drive to an hp pavilion lap top, switching the computer on promptly shuts off the power light and the reset button needs to be pressed to restore it. I cannot insert a cd in the slot until it powers up properly. Can anyone suggest what the problem might be and offer a solution?

I found it quite easy to either bend the pins or incorrectly fit the connection to a drive. It's worth rechecking it.

Hi mate... I totally agree with I am Spartacus. It is so easy to incorrectly jumper and incorrectly fit the interface adapter on some laptops.

Hitachi have a look as some of these Hitachi laptop drives click here

A lot also depends on the size of the old drive You motherboard BIOS may have a limit
