laptop feeezing

Laptop constantly freezing after only a couple of minutes after start up. It will run OK in safe mode have run AVG antivirus and spyware - detected + removed(?) downloader small
but still same problems any suggestions on how to
find out what is causing this problem after normal strart up ?

Sounds like Hardware Driver Problem. have you fitted any new hardware of late?

IF its XP have a look at the Event Viewer in Safe mode

Sorry didnt read the post properly..Doh !

Possibly as Woodchip says...driver issue.
Check device manager for any yellow exclaimation marks.

No new hardware fitted recently and the device manager check didn't show naything.

looked at the Event Viewer and nothing more than "information" for today even though I have tried numerous times in normal mode and got freezes altough always OK so far in sfe mode

any more suggestions

Just possible you installed a buggy update of some sort,have you tried system restore from within safemode ?

Also check your ram Memtest click here download the second one (zip file)burn to cd ,insert the disc and restart the system.You may have to change the boot order in the bios to boot from cd as opposed to the harddrive.

This will check your ram for any errors.

What is your laptop, ive had similar problems with my Acer and had to return to factory settings to cure the problem, also the sound went funny, cleared everything off the hard drive but it fixed it.
