Laptop connection to access net away from home?

  cab1 17:59 06 Apr 2005

Can anyone please tell me the best and cheapest method of receiving emails and the internet on my laptop whilst away from home.

I presume I will have to upgrade my mobile phone, but to which one? Also, if I buy a phone with GPRS what cables will I need to connect to the laptop?

Any help and advice will be most welcome.

cab1 when I'm abroad I go to the local internet café and they let me plug in (they don't have wi-fi but they do have ADSL).

Cost 30p per hour.

Thanks Bosmere, but I will be using my laptop on a boat with nowhere to plug in, hence I need to know how to connect via a mobile.

What phone do you have now? Have you got a data cable for it? It may already function as a modem.

My old nokia 6110 will allow me to connect via a data cable (forunately the firm pay the bills.
