laptop cant connect to modem

  iqs 16:32 09 May 2010

Just been asked by yet another friend to see why a laptop will not connect to the virgin modem (scientific-Atlanta) router in use

The desktop will connect when connected via ethernet ,but when a laptop and netbook are connected, the laptop will not connect, and the netbook connects once in every 10 attempts or so.The same CAT5 lead is used.

I have tried the laptop and netbook on my modem/router,each connect first time either by wifi or etherent cable..

I have reset the modem, and connected each device in the recommended way,and still the same happens.

Any ideas please.

Sounds as if modem is faulty - get onto Virgin.

They have contacted Virgin, who said the modem is OK,and there is no issues with their connection or in the local area.
To be honest I don't believe them, first thing they wanted to do ,was transfer them to the £1 per hour tech department, but they declined.
Will pass on your comments, and let them decide on what course of action is required.
